TREASURE HOUSE
The old shifting house built in 1837 as the first ordnance building in the Keep Yard was being prepared in early 1979 to exhibit a history of diving and the marine archeological collection, apart from large artifacts such as guns. The focal point of this exhibit is the Tucker Treasure, which was discovered by local diver Teddy Tucker in 1955 and subsequently bought by the Bermuda Government. This consists of a collection of gold bars and ornaments, the centrepiece of which was a cross on which seven emeralds were mounted. This collection was loaned to the Museum for the Royal Opening on 17 February 1975 and, while it was being set out on display, it was found that the cross had been replaced by a plastic substitute; the cross has never been found.
